ASID is pleased to offer two scholarship programs to support people to attend and present at the ASID 2026 Conference.

Student, Early Career Researcher & Community Scholarship Program

ASID is pleased to offer a scholarship program to support participation at the ASID 2026 Conference20 Years of the UN Convention: Reflect and Reimagine its Promise for People with Intellectual Disabilities, taking place at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand, 19–20 October 2026.

Scholarship funds can be used to cover registration, travel, and/or accommodation costs.

Scholarship Information

Student & Early Career Researcher Scholarships

This program is designed to support the participation of emerging researchers at the conference, encouraging them to share their work, build networks, and contribute to the advancement of research and practice in the field of intellectual disability.

Available awards:

  • 5 × $1,000 scholarships for non-local students and early career researchers
  • 5 × $500 scholarships for local (Christchurch-based) students and early career researchers

Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled in a higher degree by research (Masters by Research or PhD) or within the first five years of an initial academic appointment (early career researchers)
  • Not fully funded from other sources
  • Non-local applicants must travel to and pay for accommodation in Christchurch to attend the conference

Scholarships for People with Intellectual Disabilities & Family Members

ASID recognises the importance of ensuring that people with lived experience are present and participating at the conference.

Available awards:

  • 5 × $1,000 scholarships for non-local people with an intellectual disability
  • 5 × $500 scholarships for local (Christchurch-based) people with an intellectual disability
  • 5 × $500 scholarships for family members attending in a professional capacity or as a support person

Eligibility:

  • People with an intellectual disability who are not fully funded from other sources
  • Family members who are attending in a professional or support capacity and paying their own registration costs
  • Non-local applicants must travel to and pay for accommodation in Christchurch to attend the conference

Application Deadline & Key Information

  • Applications must be submitted by midnight on Friday, 19 June 2026.
  • Please note that only applications received via the links above will be considered — applications submitted by other means cannot be accepted.

  • Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by email at the end of June 2026.
